Award Winning White Chili Recipe

White Chili Ready To Eat

A few weeks ago, I went to my blog to find my white chili recipe. It’s easier to look for a recipe on my blog than to drag out the cookbooks. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my cookbooks. Well, it was Halloween, and I was making cornbread and my white chili recipe. I found other chili recipes on the blog, but not this one. This is my all-time favorite Halloween chili recipe.

I have to tell you why I picked this recipe, because I didn’t grow up eating this one. Mark and I went to a combined church trunk-or-treat party about 12 years ago. The group was serving potluck chili to all who attended. I want you to picture all the tables set up with white paper. The slow cookers are all lined with everyone’s favorite chili recipe.

You can see the homemade Root Beer being made and dripping on the concrete below. It doesn’t matter; we love that drink. We had cornbread, paper plates, plastic silverware, and lots of desserts. I like to check out all the slow cookers and see which one I want to devour.

What Is A White Chili Recipe

I had never heard of a white chili recipe until we went to this event. I had to try a taster, and oh my gosh, it was delicious! After that, I went walking around the party of 200-300 people to find out who brought the white Crockpot filled with white chili. This was no easy task. The next thing I knew, the Crockpot was gone, along with the cook who made it.

Thank goodness for Facebook. I posted a question as to who made it. The white Crockpot helped; there was only one at the party. I was fortunate to find out who made it, and she was willing to share the recipe.

If you’re craving a hearty, soul-warming dinner that comes together with simple pantry staples, this Amish White Chili is the perfect recipe. Packed with tender chicken, white beans, mild spices, and a rich broth, this dish is ideal for busy nights, potlucks, or cold-weather meals.

In this post, you’ll learn the history behind Amish-style chili, the key ingredients that make it unique, and how to prepare a pot of this wholesome, family-friendly recipe at home. Whether you’re new to Amish recipes or already love their traditional homestyle dishes, this version of white chili will become a staple in your kitchen.

What Is Amish White Chili?

Amish White Chili is a simple, creamy version of classic white chicken chili, but with the rustic, no-frills flavors you’d expect from Amish country cooking. Amish recipes focus on:

  • Everyday ingredients
  • Simple seasoning
  • Slow cooking to build flavor
  • Family-sized portions

This chili uses white beans, chicken, broth, mild chilies or salsa, and sour cream, making it both comforting and hearty without being overly spicy. It’s a dish anyone can enjoy.

Why You’ll Love This Amish White Chili

  • Mild and creamy: great for kids and adults
  • Budget-friendly: uses inexpensive pantry staples
  • Quick to make: ready in under 40 minutes
  • Perfect for leftovers: reheats beautifully
  • Traditional comfort food: simple and filling

This chili is the ideal mix of old-fashioned cooking and modern weeknight convenience.

A Brief History of Amish-Style White Chili

While traditional Amish communities typically cook with ingredients they can grow or produce themselves, white chili became popular as Amish home cooks adapted classic chili recipes to their own kitchens. As canned chilies, beans, and store-bought spices became more accessible, Amish women began making creamy chicken-based chili for winter meals and church gatherings.

Unlike Tex-Mex chili, Amish-style chili stays mild, creamy, and simple, bringing the focus back to slow-simmered ingredients and clean, comforting flavors.

Tips for Making the Best Amish White Chili

  • Use rotisserie chicken for faster prep.
  • Swap white beans for navy beans for a softer texture.
  • Add cream cheese for extra richness.
  • Stir in corn for sweetness.
  • Let it simmer longer for a deeper flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 Teaspoons SAF Instant Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 2 Cups Warm Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1-1/2 Teaspoons Sea Salt
  • 4 Teaspoons Dough Enhancer
  • 2 Eggs
  • 6-7 Cups White bread flour (Add 1/2 of the flour and then add more until the dough pulls away from the sides of the mixing bowl)

Instructions

  • Place all of the ingredients in order into your mixing bowl. Be careful with the eggs not to add the warm milk too slowly or you will have scrambled eggs.
  • Add half of the flour and keep adding the rest of the flour until the bread dough pulls away from the sides of the mixing bowl.
  • Cover with greased plastic and let rise the first time about an hour.
  • Punch the dough down and mold it into small balls about 1-1/2 inches to 2 inches in diameter.
  • Cover with greased plastic and let rise for about an hour or until double the size.
  • Remove the plastic wrap and bake at (350°F) = (176°C) degrees for 15-20 minutes on a greased cookie sheet. Do not overbake. They should be golden brown.
  • I spread a little butter on the tops after baking so the rolls are soft on top. If you like a crispier top you can skip this step.
